The unmistakable knob you see from Winston-Salem – an easy day trip with big views and short hikes.
About 30 minutes north of Winston-Salem, Pilot Mountain's rocky Big Pinnacle rises straight out of the Piedmont. You can drive almost to the top, then take short trails to overlooks with views across to the Blue Ridge on clear days.
Make it a day
- Easy: the summit overlooks and the Jomeokee Trail around the base of the pinnacle.
- Longer: trails down the mountain toward the Yadkin River section of the park.
- Combine with a Yadkin Valley winery on the way back.
Climbing on the Big Pinnacle itself is not allowed.
