The town of Beech Mountain sits higher than any other town in eastern North America, and its ski resort makes the most of it: skiing and snowboarding in winter, then lift-served mountain biking, disc golf and summer concerts when the snow melts. Beech Mountain Brewing at the summit is a stop in itself.
It is about a 20-minute drive up the mountain from Banner Elk.
